The Lifestyle Research Center at emlyon business school is looking to fill a 2-year funded post-doctoral position for the academic years of 2023-2024 and 2024-25, starting in September 2023.

This post-doc position provides promising scholars with excellent opportunities to move forward their research, further push their projects, and start new ones. Our research center is a dynamic environment. Members of the Center meet regularly to discuss research, attend and organize invited talks and workshops, mentor PhDs and faculty members, and work together in an inspiring and encouraging atmosphere. Recently, the Reserch Center has gained experience in funded project from French and EU authorities, in an effort to carry out research that is rigorous and impactful at the same time.

The Research Center was founded by emlyon business school to foster expertise and knowledge on lifestyle-related markets and branding. Our research is focused on the following key areas relevant to understanding contemporary lifestyles and their changes: 1) consumer and service experience, 2) taste and markets, 3) sustainability, and 4) lifestyle branding. The Center brings together researchers mostly from marketing and consumer research, but also converges with organization theory, management and strategy, data science, entrepreneurship, and innovation. We are connected by a shared ambition towards understanding how contemporary lifestyles and markets work, and in particular their ongoing “ruptures” and transformations. We are intellectually open to and inspired by alternative, critical, and novel research methodologies. We aim high. Lifestyle members are very involved and research active. They have published in top-tier publications including: Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Marketing Management, European Journal of Marketing, Marketing Theory, Consumption Markets & Culture, Organization, Journal of Business Research, Recherche et Applications en Marketing. Some of them have editorial responsibilities and have strong experience in publishing.

The position is based in Lyon. Our campus is currently located in Ecully, but we plan to move to a new campus in the center of Lyon in 2024.

The post-doc candidate we are looking for is passionate about research, energetic and open minded. We want them to be fully engaged with us. Responsibilities include high-quality research, taking part in lifestyle research center activities, and assisting in the organization of seminars, workshops and in promoting the center’s activities on social media. Teaching is not required but is possible. The working language of our group is English.

We welcome, in particular, applications from PhDs in Marketing with a focus on marketing and/or consumer research. We are also happy to consider other PhDs with an interest in marketing, branding, markets, identity, consumption practices, experiences, taste, media, big data, sustainability, or other lifestyle-related phenomena. Methodological expertise in social media data scraping and analysis will be appreciated. Candidates would need to defend their Ph.D. thesis before starting the contract.
