The Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University invites applications for a tenured/tenure-track position in Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) beginning in Fall 2024. The position may have the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor.

QUALIFICATIONS

The IMC department is looking for a scholar who has deep knowledge of media consumption, planning, and strategy. Candidates should have a PhD in advertising, media studies, communications, marketing, economics, business, information systems, or a related field and should have a strong ambition to conduct and publish high caliber, impactful, and innovative research in the fields of media, advertising, communication and/or marketing. The research should have strong managerial implications that drive thought leadership. Applicants should describe in their cover letter how their research is aligned with the values and goals of the IMC program. Candidates with expertise in advertising/communication strategy, media management and media economics are especially encouraged to apply. Scholars who include ethics, gender, race, and/or other aspects of social identity in their research are desirable.

Medill is a professional school and thus it is critical that faculty be comfortable translating theoretical frameworks into actionable practice in the classroom. The IMC department offers a full-time 15-month master’s program, a professional master’s program, and an undergraduate certificate program. The programs focus on consumer/stakeholder insight, brand strategy, data analytics, media strategy, and strategic communications. Applicants must have an interest in developing and teaching courses in areas such as omnichannel marketing, content strategy, media strategy, media economics, and digital marketing strategy. Faculty are expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate students and perform professional service commensurate with rank.

Faculty will work in a demanding but rewarding environment at a premier global university. Medill is dedicated to creating a socially just community by strengthening policies, developing programs, and fostering acceptance for a broad range of communities and concepts.  The school aims to welcome students, staff and faculty from diverse backgrounds and support them so they may thrive in our community. Medill is interested in applicants who will advance DEI through their teaching, reasearch, and/or service. The school’s excellence can only be fully realized by faculty, students, and staff who share our commitment to these values. Succesful canidates for our faculty positions will demonstrate evidence of a commitment to advancing equity and inclusion. In their statement on contributions to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, candidates should be specific about their contributions to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, including information about their understanding of these issues, record of activities to date, and specific plans and goals for advancing equity and inclusion if hired as a Medill faculty member.

Considering the significant disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly for disadvantaged groups, in our evaluation of applicants, dips in productivity and engagement in the field in otherwise strong records/trajectories occurring with the onset of the pandemic will be evaluated with the context of the pandemic in mind.
