You want to satisfy your intellectual curiosity and deepen your research skills while developing your teaching experience? The Institute for Marketing and Consumer Research is looking for support at the Assistant Professor level (40 hours per week). This position open doors to an academic career for a self-motivated, passionate researcher and team player, who wants to make a significant contribution to the Institute’s agendas.

What to expect
  • Engaging in research: You will be contributing to research of the institute and further develop your own research in co-operation with colleagues from the team and the international scientific community. Research at the institute focuses on human beings in their role as consumers in a complex and dynamic world. We are particularly known for our expertise in psychological ownership, sustainable consumer practices and customer value.
  • Engaging in teaching: you will be contributing to our specialization in the bachelor program as well as to the master program and be part of students development as they write their bachelor and master thesis. You will have a chance to benefit from existing course designs and to develop your own materials.
  • Engaging in a transfer between research, teaching and practice: You will be part of a group that has a history of collaborating with and learning from stakeholders beyond academia. You will be expected to reflect on transfer potentials and to try and actively connect teaching, research and practice. This involves engaging in industry projects or competitive funding initiatives
  • Engaging in academic administration: like any team member you will contribute to the Institute’s administration and organizational tasks. Jointly we will determine how you can best help to ensure smooth operations, successful events or external relations.
  • Being part of and learn from the scientific community: You will have the opportunity to engage with renowned researchers inside and beyond the department of Marketing. You will regularly meet stellar scholars in the internal research seminar series and benefit from generous conference support and visiting possibilities.

What you have to offer
  • Degree: We are looking for applicants with a solid academic qualification in marketing or a related field (completed PhD, doctorate, or close to finish) with a profound knowledge and proven skills in quantitative or qualitative research methods
  • Topical expertise: You have very good prior knowledge of prevailing theories and methods in consumer research and are able to connect your expertise to the institute’s research foci. Close topical alignment with current research at the institute would be an asset.
  • Empirical research skills: You have very good prior knowledge of empirical research methods. This includes designing studies and analyzing data independently. Proven expertise in advanced level statistics, the application of statistics software (SPSS, R, Stata) and experimental design are an asset.
  • Teaching experience: Prior experience in teaching subjects related to consumer research, at any level is an asset. You should be motivated to continuously improve your didactic skills with WU’s qualification program.
  • Experience in publishing: You have experience with publishing in internationally recognized journals, know how to write and structure an academic article and are committed to publish with high impact and in international top journals.
  • Communication skills: You to have an excellent oral and written command of English. German language skills are an asset.
  • Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You have experience in using multimedia teaching and learning formats or are at least willing to learn.
  • Working style: We look for an enthusiastic, curious team player, who is passionate about research while also caring about our students and the broader implications of their work. You work independently, show initiative, are willing to take on responsibility, and have good self-organization skills. You are motivated to provide and seek help when needed.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €4,061.50 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on equivalent prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
