Job description

The new Professor is expected to strengthen the position of the Department of Marketing; in particular in the area of Consumer Behavior, Quantitative Marketing, and/or Strategic Marketing. Therefore, we seek candidates who are committed to excellence in both research and teaching. You have a proven ability to conduct high quality, original research in areas of interest to the department, and you have a track record of publications in international top marketing journals. Research time is allocated according to regular faculty procedures (comparable to US research schools). With your excellent teaching you will participate in and contribute to the educational programs of the Department of Marketing, with a focus on Marketing Management and/or Marketing Analytics and Data Science. Specific educational tasks will depend on the expertise and experience of the candidate.

Qualifications

To qualify, candidates have:

• a PhD degree in Marketing or a related discipline for preferably at least 5 years on reference date 1 March 2022
• an exemplary research record in Consumer Behavior, Quantitative Marketing, and/or Strategic Marketing, demonstrated by publications in international top journals in these sub-fields and/or in peer-reviewed books
• excellent teaching skills: you are an enthusiastic and effective lecturer, have knowledge of empirical methods, didactics, and understanding of teaching and assessment methods
• proof of independence and international recognition
• experience in various working environments in different countries
• success in acquiring external funding for research projects
• demonstrable organisational qualities and communication skills
• good interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully work both individually and in a team
• a well-founded and motivated application with an innovative research plan for the first five years and a challenging outlook for the future which takes into account the international research landscape in their field of specialization.

Within the Department of Marketing (Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, The Netherlands), a full-time position is vacant for a Professor (senior Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) in Marketing. Department of Marketing
The Department of Marketing is one of the highly regarded and productive marketing groups in Europe. The department is responsible for courses in marketing for students in Bachelor and Master programs – in particular on Marketing Management, and Marketing Analytics & Data Science – at the Faculty of Economics and Business. In addition, the department participates in the Research Master program, a challenging 2-year master program intended for students aiming at a PhD. Scientific research is concentrated in the research program Marketing (part of the SOM research school), which consistently obtains very high ratings in research evaluations. Contract research, in turn, is conducted within the RUG Customer Insights Centre and the Groningen Digital Business Centre, which both form a bridge between science and practice.

Conditions of employment

The vacancy comprises a full time position at the level of senior Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience in accordance with the CLA Dutch Universities. For a senior Assistant Professor the salary ranges from € 4,629 to a maximum of € 5,943 gross per month (salary scale 12).
For an Associate Professor the salary ranges from a minimum of € 5,294 gross salary per month (salary scale 13) to a maximum of € 7,079 (salary scale 14).
For a Full professor the minimum salary is € 5,864 to a maximum of € 8,539 gross per month (scale H2).
The position also includes an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus, as well as participation in a pension scheme for employees. For employees moving to The Netherlands, a fiscal facility pertaining to extraterritorial costs, the 30% facility, may be applicable if the rules of Dutch tax law permit this. Finally, a full time position will entitle you to 328 hours of leave per year.

Starting date of the position is negotiable, but we foresee that it starts in September 2022. You will get an initial temporary appointment but on the basis of a positive evaluation, tenure will be granted.
