The School of Marketing invites candidates to apply for a Professor of Practice or Teaching Track position beginning August 2022. The position is for the Hattiesburg campus and will serve as the co-lead for the Professional Sales Certificate Program (including coordinating for the sales lab and sales competitions). Candidates with extensive knowledge and experience in sales are especially encouraged to apply.

 Primary Duties and Responsibilities  
The Professor of Practice or Assistant Teaching Professor will teach four courses per semester (or equivalent) to be determined by the Director of the School. Teaching obligations will primarily support the Professional Selling Certificate and the Marketing BSBA programs and may also include related programs. Faculty are expected to maintain quality teaching (both online and in-person) and contribute to the program’s mission (below). This position will also serve as the co-lead for the Professional Sales Certificate program and coordinator for the Sales Lab and sales team (competitions). In addition, the faculty member will be expected to engage in service activities (such as committee work and other official activities) for the School, College, and University.

The Mission of the Marketing Program
 
Our faculty maintains active research records and connections with business leaders. We prepare our students to be successful marketing professionals by (a) challenging them to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective problem-solvers and (b) requiring them to apply their knowledge and skills on client based projects to gain real-world experience.

Minimum Qualifications 
Candidates must hold an MBA or Master’s (or equivalent) in Marketing or related field (for appointment at the rank of Professor of Practice) or a doctoral degree in Marketing or a related field (for appointment at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor). Candidates with ABD status and nearing completion of their dissertation may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications  

  • The preferred candidate will have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Marketing, Sales, or related field, and/or professional sales experience, with a minimum of two years of sales work experience.
  • Experience in managing an academic program/center, coordinating sales competitions, and/or supervising sales teams is preferred, as is a desire to engage in applied-based teaching (both online and in-person) and experience in fundraising.
  • Emphasis is also on candidates who can connect with and relate to our students and challenge them to become effective problem solvers according to the School of Marketing’s Mission/Vision.
  • Current teaching needs include Advanced Professional Selling and Principles of Marketing.
  • Future needs might include Professional Selling, Sales Management, and other sales and marketing courses.
