Postdoc position in Business Administration with specialization in marketing and public transportation

The Department of Business Administration at Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics, is looking for one postdoc with specialization in marketing and public transportation. Apply 2021-05-21 at the latest.

The postdoctoral position is based at the Department of Business Administration and more specifically at the marketing section. The marketing section has a broad portfolio of research projects including various theoretical perspectives, methods and empirical settings. The section has a prominent focus on sustainability, which includes (1) sustainable consumer behavior and transportation, (2) corporate branding and sustainable organizational practices, (3) sustainable consumption and circular economy, and (4) sustainable consumption and retailing, among other topics. This postdoc position focuses on and advances research on sustainability marketing and branding in the public transport industry.

Work description
You will spend your working time in Umeå at the Department of Business Administration and the marketing section. The applicant is expected to contribute to the research environment by planning and conducting own and joint research with researchers at the section with specialization in sustainability marketing and branding in the public transport industry. The research should be both practically and theoretically relevant as well as beneficial for the industry. The project is a collaboration with Nobina, which is the largest public transport company in the Nordic region.
The position includes up to 20% teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels in Business Administration. The successful applicant will be employed by Umeå University and receive a competitive salary for a period of two years fulltime.

The starting date for the position is upon agreement, but no later than September 1, 2021. 

Requirements and qualifications 
Applicants should have a PhD in Business Administration or corresponding scientific competence.

Priority will be given to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree no more than three years before the closing date of the application. A candidate, who received a PhD prior to this may be considered if special circumstances exist. Special circumstances include absence due to illness, parental leave, appointments of trust in trade unions or similar circumstances.

The most important assessment criterion for the appointment is scientific competence. Scientific competence is assessed in a descending order based on documented experience and ability of:

  • to conduct internationally competitive research demonstrated through publications in internationally recognized journals, as well as books and book chapters linked to marketing, branding, sustainability and/or travelling.
  • to use methods suitable for studying and analyzing a selected phenomenon related to this appointment
  • to work independently and be part of a research group.

In addition to this, good communication skills in written and spoken English are required. Ability to speak and write in Swedish is qualifying. Experience within international networks and collaborations with researchers from other universities is qualifying. Previous research on public transportation, sustainable travelling and sustainability in general is qualifying. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.
