OVERVIEW

We have an opportunity for a Professor in Marketing to deliver excellent research and teaching and act as Director of our emerging BRISTT Research Cluster which delivers a vibrant range of research activity and publications across the Division’s subject areas, including cross-disciplinary projects on the areas of sustainability, inclusivity and innovation in digital transformation.

The School has developed four new research themes that highlight our major research and impact strengths and achievements and reflect research/impact excellence across the Schools research profile which will be the focus of research in the School in the future. The School research themes include Pathways to sustainable production, consumption and finance; Innovation, technology & place; Enhancing health and wellbeing; and Work futures.

We are interested in candidates with expertise in any areas of marketing including, but not limited to, sustainable marketing, strategic marketing, digital marketing, marketing innovation, and socially responsible marketing, who can contribute to the School and the wider University in the areas of research, teaching, leadership and professional standing and wider engagement. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to further develop the focus of the research cluster which may involve the repositioning, naming and branding of the cluster, based on the interests and expertise of current members and their own research.

Faculty/department: Management School
Salary information: £77,475 – £120,604 + performance related bonuses of up to £9,000 per annum.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Effective leadership and management: Acting as Director of BRISTT. Actively contribute to the collective interests and values of the University through individual action and inclusive, collaborative working. In a senior leadership role, consistently take responsibility, provide support to others and make accountable, creative and considered decisions in response to a range of emerging issues and opportunities. Being a role model and champion for the values and behaviours of the ‘Sheffield Academic’ and promote its integration into the life of the University.
  • Research income and impact: Undertake research that generates external research income/grant funding in line with the norms in your field of research. This includes a sustained track record of leading the development of individual or collaborative external grant funding and using your research expertise, undertake research and translational activities that result in a demonstrable effect on, change or benefit to the economy, society, culture, or environment, beyond academia.”
  • High-quality outputs: Undertake research that is significant, impactful and world changing, increasing the School’s intellectual contribution to the sector, enhancing our reputation and standing, and making a societal difference. Demonstrate this through your leadership of independent and collaborative research activity that delivers a track record of regular publication of influential and consistently excellent outputs in your field of research.
  • High-quality teaching practice: Lead and supervise delivery and assessment to ensure consistently high quality teaching, learning and student support. There is an opportunity to develop and implement ideas for improving your own and others teaching design, delivery and assessment in line with the University’s Vision & Strategy for Education. In a leadership capacity, constructively challenge established practice, structure, and process in order to bring about positive change and improved outcomes.
  • Citizenship: Contribute significantly to the effective and efficient running of the Department, Faculty and University, undertaking leadership roles as required. Participate in University, Departmental and Faculty committees as appropriate.   • Hold a PhD in a relevant subject area. And expertise in one or more of the following areas: sustainable marketing, marketing innovation and digital marketing. (Assessed by application.)
  • A significant track record of regular publication of consistently excellent quality outputs in the marketing and business management fields that are judged through peer review as being internationally excellent or world leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour.
  • Proven ability to regularly identify and secure income/grant funding in line with the norms in your field of research from a range of providers, lead and manage externally funded scholarship or research; initiate grant applications, manage projects successfully to completion, manage and mentor project staff, develop high quality outputs, and lead impact and public engagement activities.
  • Significant evidence of research impact that demonstrate an effect beyond academia, for example via engagement with national or international policy working groups, patent applications, significant consultancy contracts creating institutional benefits etc. (Desirable)
  • Proven teaching ability, ideally with a teaching qualification & evidence of designing and delivering high-quality, research led, teaching programmes leading to effective learning.
  • An understanding of and demonstrable commitment to promoting and embedding equality, diversity and inclusion principles and practices and demonstration of capacity to meet the educational needs of a diversity of learners.
  • Ability to work effectively and strategically in a leadership role and on a team/collaborative basis in a collegial context, and within a distributed model of leadership, making accountable, creative and considered decisions. (Assessed by interview/ panel discussion)
  • Ability to mentor and motivate colleagues in developing their research or scholarship plans, curriculum innovation and teaching portfolios in line with the Department and Faculty strategies, and contribute to their professional development and pastoral care.   • Experience of building and developing a team of researchers (staff and research students), providing effective management/supervision.
  • Experience of establishing, developing and maintaining significant and high profile links and liaison with educational bodies, industry and/or professional practice.
  • A track record of leadership of research and national/international professional networks/special interest groups/policy groups and other communities and organisations.
