We are offering a position as Assistant Professor (non tenure track) or two PhD positions in Marketing with a flexible start in 2024 (subject of negotiation). As an interdisciplinary chair, we are interested in consumer phenomena at the intersection of technological trends and consumer behavior in the digital sphere, employing a broad range of different methods ranging from machine learning methods to behavioral experiments. We are looking for a candidate who is interested in pursuing an academic career in marketing.

What to expect
The duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate are research, teaching, and administrative tasks:
- You will develop an international reputation and build up a professional network in research in a field within the department’s research focus (e.g., with conference participations)
- You will strive to publish research in high-quality outlets in line with the department’s list of leading international journals
- In addition, you are expected to contribute actively to the setup of the institute and support administrative tasks related to research, teaching, and self-governance
Specifics for the Assistant Professor (Universitätsassistent*in post doc) position:
- You will teach two course per semester, both in the marketing programs and in the cross-sectional master “Management in a Digital Economy”
- You are expected to (co-)supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, support student projects in cooperation with practice partners, and guide PhD students of the institute
Specifics for Teaching and Research Associate (Universitätsassistent*in prae doc)positions
- Writing a dissertation: You will be investigating your research topic and spending a third of your working hours on writing your dissertation.
- Doctoral courses:You will complete doctoral courses and participate in research seminars.
- Teaching: You will start teaching one course per semester after the second semester of your employment. You will also co-supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.
What you have to offer
- Strong academic record during PhD or master studies in line with the institute’s key research areas:
A) Quantitative marketing, empirical methods, information systems, big data analytics, machine learning approaches
B) Marketing management, consumer behavior, behavioral economics, social psychology - Interest in research questions related to consumer behavior in social media, digital business models, or phenomena at the intersection between technological trends and questions of ethicality and morality
- Very good command of written and spoken English (knowledge of German is not required but will be considered as plus)
- Very good presentation and analytical skills, high self-motivation, excellent organizational skills, and a can-do attitude
- Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You have experience in using multimedia teaching and learning formats or are at least willing to learn.
Specifics for the Assistant Professor (Universitätsassistent*in post doc) position:
- Academic degree: PhD degree in accordance with the institutes key research interests (final year PhD candidates are invited to apply)
- Strong academic record and key areas of research in one of the following focus areas
A) Secondary data/machine learning-based analysis
B) Behavioral lab and field experimental research - Academic research paper (“job market paper”), which has been published or is publishable in a leading academic journal
- A strong commitment to or interest in high-quality research as well as evidence of ability to conduct impactful research and to publish in top journals
- Active involvement in the international academic community through cooperation with coauthors, and/or presentations at leading academic conferences
- A demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching (teaching statement)
Specifics for Teaching and Research Associate (Universitätsassistent*in prae doc) positions:
- Academic degree: You have a diploma/master’s degree related to the key research areas of the institute (or are expected to complete it depending on starting time) that qualifies you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU
- Strong academic record in line with the institute’s research focus, especially in terms of analytical and statistical courses
- Experience with empirical data analysis, e.g., in relevant internships or an empirical master thesis
