The Faculty of Management and Business at Tampere University educates exceptional future management and business professionals and carries out high-quality research that delivers impact for society. The Faculty consists of five units: Administrative Studies, Business Studies, Industrial Engineering and Management, Information and Knowledge Management, and Politics.  

We are now looking for a new postdoctoral research fellow to join our Business Studies Unit, more specifically the marketing discipline and research group. 

In the Faculty of Management and Business, research in the field of marketing is carried out by the Customer-oriented Marketing Research Group, which examines various consumer and business phenomena from customer perspectives. The goal of the research group is to identify and develop ways to bring the voice of the customer into the decision-making processes of companies and organisations. The group brings together experts in business-to-consumer marketing (B2C), consumer behaviour and strategic and managerial perspectives on marketing, among other things.  The group publishes research papers on strategic marketing, consumer behaviour, customer value, business transformations, customer experience and decision-making in high-quality international journals. Job description

The appointment as a postdoctoral research fellow will be made for a term of five years. The position is connected to the Customer-oriented Marketing Research Group. The postdoctoral research fellow will be expected to produce research papers for international journals and obtain external research funding. The duties will also include teaching in English, the supervision of students writing their thesis and active participation in the activities of the research group and unit. The specific functions and responsibilities will be agreed with the candidate during the recruitment process. 


An eligible candidate will be expected to hold a doctoral degree from a relevant field and have a track record of international scholarly activity and teaching. Suitable doctoral degrees include (but are not limited to) marketing, knowledge management, business administration or other suitable doctoral degrees where connections to the research themes of the Customer-oriented Marketing Research Group can be identified.

The successful candidate’s own research interests and research plan may include themes that either complement the existing profile of the Customer-oriented Marketing Research Group or bring in new perspectives, either methodological or theoretical. Experience of teaching and instruction and a track record of societal interaction will be considered an advantage. We expect candidates to demonstrate a strong level of motivation and a commitment to the development of customer-oriented marketing research and present an ambitious research plan. A good level of English is also required.   

When evaluating candidates, we will consider the following criteria: 

  • The alignment of your research and teaching profile with the profile of the Customer-oriented Marketing Research Group. 
  • The ambitiousness of your research plan and its alignment with the profile of the Customer-oriented Marketing Research Group. 
  • Your track record of international scholarly activity. 
  • Your track record of teaching and instruction and interaction with the broader society.

We offer

The postdoctoral research fellow will be hired for a fixed term of five years. The start date will be 1 January 2021, unless another date is mutually agreed between the parties. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.

The position of a postdoctoral research fellow is placed at levels 5-6 in the Finnish University Salary System in the pay scale that applies to research and teaching staff. In addition to a job-specific pay component, employees receive performance-based pay.

Tutkijatohtorin tehtävä on 5-vuotinen ja se kytkeytyy asiakaslähtöisen markkinoinnin tutkimusryhmän toimintaan. Tutkijatohtorin tehtäviin kuuluu kansainvälinen tieteellinen julkaisutoiminta ja täydentävän tutkimusrahoituksen hankinta. Tehtäviin kuuluu lisäksi opetusta, opinnäytetöiden ohjausta sekä aktiivista osallistumista tutkimusryhmän ja yksikön yhteisiin tehtäviin.
