The School of Business and Economics of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Tübingen invites applications for the position of a

Post-Doc in Data Science in Business and Economics (m/f/d; A13, 100%).

Intended starting date is January 1, 2021 or later. The initial appointment will be for three years, renewable for another three-year period.

The position is part of the School’s initiative to further broaden and strengthen its activities in the domain of Data Science and its applications in different domains. We are looking for outstanding candidates who are highly interested in applying Data Science methods in relevant and promising areas in the field of Business and Economics.

We expect candidates to have excellent skills in R and / or Python, and experience in teaching R or Python is appreciated. The successful candidate will further have expertise in at least one of the following areas:

 Handling and management of large and diverse data sets
 Working with unstructured data
 Advanced statistical methods
 Machine learning for analyzing scientific data
 Workflow for reproducible research and statistical analysis

We expect the successful candidate to develop her / his own research portfolio within the field of Business or Economics with the aim of successful publications in the leading journals of the field, and to contribute to the School’s teaching portfolio at all levels, in particular to the M.Sc. Data Science in Business and Economics. A clear empirical focus in research and teaching is expected, and a commitment to open science is appreciated. The successful candidate is required to pursue a Habilitation or equivalent academic qualification.

Required qualifications include an outstanding doctoral thesis in a pertinent field (i.e., applicants should have completed doctoral degree requirements before the start of the contract period), recognizable potential for internationally visible publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, and teaching aptitude.

The University of Tübingen, spread across the small and picturesque town of Tübingen in south-west Germany, is one of 11 Universities of Excellence in Germany, with, among others, a Cluster of Excellence Machine Learning for Science. The university’s School of Business and Economics has a faculty of more than 30 professors, junior professors, and post docs. It continues to attract excellent students in its B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs, in part due to its strong international orientation. Teaching as well as many research activities are characterized by a strong empirical focus. We offer an open and supportive work environment with a strong research orientation, which is also part of our teaching philosophy. The successful candidate will be employed with a civil servant status and will be part of the Marketing group (Prof. Papies), although an academic mentor may come from other areas in the school, depending on the candidate’s specialization.
