Assistant Teaching Professor in Business Analytics

1) This appointment is to a full-time faculty position as Assistant Teaching Professor, which is a joint appointment between the McCourt School of Public Policy and the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. As part of your appointment with MSB, you will contribute to all academic computing and programming activities for the Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) in the McDonough School of Business. At McCourt, you will assist in course planning; participate in our data science community and in advising students both academically and professionally in the Data Science for Public Policy (DSPP) program, 2) The appointment is for a term of three academic years, effective Sept. 1, 2020 and ending August 31, 2023. 3) You will teach courses related to programming and data management in addition to advising student teams on the Capstone courses in the MSBA program. For McCourt, most instruction will be in person. For MSB, most instruction will be online. 4) Your appointment to the faculty carries with it the obligation to provide instruction and to contribute to the intellectual life of the both the McCourt School and the McDonough School of Business. You will be assigned 15 credits over the year at a 100% FTE, with scheduling, level, subject matter, and enrollment being determined by the Dean’s Offices at both schools. Additional responsibilities include overseeing the MSBA program’s academic integrity, student academic engagement, collaborating with faculty colleagues to develop asynchronous course material and other items requested by the MSBA Director. Candidates should have a substantive background and interest in Programming (e.g., R, Python), including topics such as Relational and Non-Relational Databases, Data Engineering and Management, Big Data infrastructure, high-performance computing, spatial data, text-as-data and machine learning. Candidates should also have active research interests, ideally at the intersection of policy and business, but at least in one of the two fields. Successful candidates will contribute to scholarly teaching, student advising and faculty support in the MSBA program and overall growth of the McDonough School of Business in the areas of computing and information technology. An MS in a technical field (e.g., computer science, engineering, statistics, data science, or any related data-driven discipline) with extensive experience in R and Python programming is required. A PhD degree is preferred. Candidates with industry and applied experience are strongly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will teach programming and big data courses and will serve in an advisory role for the students and faculty in the MSBA and DSPP programs.
