Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Business invites applications for the position of Department Head of Marketing and Supply Chain Management.  

Southeastern Louisiana University is a progressive regional, comprehensive university that enrolls approximately 13,500 graduate and undergraduate students.  The University’s home, Hammond, is at the crossroads of Interstates 55 and 12 in the heart of Louisiana’s thriving Northshore.  It is centrally located within an hour’s drive of New Orleans, Baton Rouge (the state capital), and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and affords extensive cultural, recreational, and research opportunities.  The Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management has approximately 500 undergraduate majors.

The Department Head is the chief academic and administrative officer of the department, with a 12-month appointment. The Department Head is appointed by the President of the University, with approval of the University of Louisiana System. The Department Head is responsible to the Dean of the College, to the Provost and Vice President  for Academic Affairs, and to the President for the administration of the department.  

The  Department Head is responsible for advancing a culture of academic excellence where  distinction in teaching, research, scholarship, and service is expected and rewarded. As the link between faculty and administration, the Department Head is expected to provide  leadership for curriculum development, implementation and the assessment of student  learning. The successful candidate will oversee all activities in the department, including but not limited to the promotion of undergraduate and graduate education, oversight of course scheduling, support of student and faculty development/ recruitment, management of all departmental budgets, and evaluation of faculty in accordance with university and departmental guidelines. The Head is also responsible for coordinating, supervising, and executing departmental activities related to maintenance of accreditation. The successful candidate must work towards meeting institutional performance targets, particularly goals established for retention, progression and graduation rates of undergraduates. In addition, the successful candidate will engage in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and will be encouraged to maintain a research program appropriate for a department in a college with undergraduate and master’s degree programs. The successful Department Head understands the role of administration and accepts administrative authority and responsibility and must possess personal qualities such as openness, integrity and objectivity. The Department Head must be effective in planning, communicating, coordinating, problem solving, negotiating, setting goals, and representing the department, college and University. 

Requirements

Apointment at the rank of associate or full professor. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous administrative and leadership experience is preferred. 
Ability to be effective in planning, communicating, coordinating, problem solving, negotiating, setting goals, and representing the department, college, and university.
