Department Marketing Statement

The Department of Marketing in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) seeks applicants for two tenure-track positions beginning Fall 2023. One position is intended for the assistant professor level and one position at an advanced level (advanced assistant or associate).

About the University and Department

The Department of Marketing is a collegial group consisting of six tenured and tenure-track faculty members and offers undergraduate, masters (including Masters in Data Analytics), and doctoral degrees with a concentration in marketing. The Marketing Department has been consistently ranked among the top 100 programs by UT-Dallas in terms of publications, with the 2004-2022 UT-D rank being 52 in North America. Faculty members have diverse backgrounds and pursue a variety of research interests and publish in the premiere outlets of marketing and related fields (e.g., Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research). Recent doctoral students have publications in the four top marketing journals and have been placed at Michigan State University, University of Alabama, University of Arkansas, and University of Cincinnati, etc.

The Carlos Alvarez College of Business at UTSA is one of the 30 largest business schools in the nation; is AACSB accredited; offers a variety of master’s programs as well as Ph.D. programs in six areas; and ranks second in the nation in the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to Hispanics. UTSA is categorized as a Carnegie R1 institution, the prestigious designation for top research institutions in the United States. UTSA is a comprehensive public metropolitan university that serves approximately 34,000 students on three campuses in San Antonio. Salary and the supporting start-up package are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Hours per Week

Exempt Position: 40 hours per week.

Required Qualifications

Advanced Assistant/ Associate Professor:

  • Research specialization in Consumer Behavior with multi-method experience; 
  • Ph.D. in marketing or a related discipline; 
  • Strong evidence of scholarly research (a portfolio of research in marketing and currently be engaged in an active research program in the field. This would necessarily include recent placements in top journals in the field, and effective teaching; and the ability and desire to mentor marketing Ph.D. students. 
  • The ability to work with, and be sensitive to, the educational needs of students from a diverse urban population

Assistant Professor: 

  • Research specialization in Marketing Analytics 
  • Ph.D. in marketing or a related discipline. Doctoral students who are ABD will be considered with a clearly identified plan to complete their Ph.D. before the start date.
  • Strong potential for quality research and teaching; and the desire to mentor marketing Ph.D. students.
  • The ability to work with, and be sensitive to, the educational needs of students from a diverse urban population
