General Information | The James Madison University College of Business is seeking applicants for a renewable term appointment (RTA) as a Lecturer in the Department of Marketing. This position is a full-time, renewable academic year position beginning with the 2022-23 academic year in Harrisonburg, Virginia and is benefits eligible. |
Duties and Responsibilities | The position has responsibilities in teaching all areas of Marketing. Preference will be given to those applicants with recent and relevant business-to-business sales experience in sales. Recent experience can include but is not limited to sales training, sales team management, or a leadership position in sales. Typical courses that the candidate would be required to teach are; Advanced Professional Selling (MKTG 466), CRM Sales Technology for Sales Professionals (MKTG 465), Professional Selling (MKTG 430) and/or Integrative Business: Marketing (COB 300D). Preference will be given to candidates that demonstrate expertise to teach two or more of these courses. The ability to teach other courses in the marketing curriculum is desired but not required. In addition to the teaching responsibilities and office hours, the successful candidate will also be obligated to perform service activities (such as working on departmental committees, advising student organizations, attending sales roleplays and competitions, and other Center for Professional Sales events) and maintain professional qualifications according to AACSB standards. The following is a non-exhaustive list of possible activities faculty members may undertake to support the maintenance of professional qualifications: continuing education and certifications, consulting, serving on boards, recognized professional expertise in the teaching discipline, publications, and university administrative duties. These requirements can be met in a number of ways, thereby providing the candidate the ability to contribute based upon their strengths, abilities, and interests. It is anticipated that in order to meet these obligations, the successful candidate will need to be available for potential on-campus activities during multiple days throughout the week. |
Qualifications | At a minimum, applicants should have an MBA from an AACSB-accredited institution. Preference will be given to those applicants with recent and relevant business-to-business sales experience in sales. Recent experience can include but is not limited to sales training, sales team management, or a leadership position in sales. The Department of Marketing is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their teaching, professional qualifications, and/or service, to the thought diversity and excellence of the JMU academic community. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to add intellectual diversity to the department, to engage successfully with diverse students and colleagues, to help students understand diverse perspectives, and to mentor diverse students and communities. |
