Faculty Position (non-tenure track) in Marketing

Department of Marketing and International Business 

Washington State University, Carson College of Business, Vancouver campus 

The Department of Marketing and International Business in the Carson College of Business at Washington State University invites applications for a permanently funded, full-time non-tenure track faculty position with 9 month academic appointment as a Scholarly Assistant/Associate Professor of Marketing at the Vancouver campus to begin August 16, 2022. 

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree in Marketing or related fields. All qualified candidates must demonstrate evidence of overall teaching excellence (supported by teaching evaluations). Candidates must also demonstrate evidence of a research agenda targeting Marketing, Sales or related practitioner or academic journals.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate the ability to teach courses in Marketing and Sales. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience teaching or demonstrating the ability to teach classes in Professional Selling. Relevant industry experience in sales and sales management to support teaching and service will be highly valued.  

Candidates should be able to demonstrate their ability to connect with the business community. Experience leading Professional Sales programs at the University level, building programs, generating external funds to support the program, and securing the cooperation of local business organizations will be especially valued.   

Preference will also be given to candidates with the ability to publish in either practitioner or academic journals – especially in the areas of Sales and Sales Management.

Business faculty at all WSU campuses are part of the Carson College of Business, which offers AACSB accredited programs at undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. levels (Ph.D. programs are taught on the Pullman campus).

Term, Compensation and Support:  

This is a permanently funded non tenure-track position.  The appointment will be on a contract basis (term to be negotiated) with the opportunity for renewal. Duties are assigned for a nine-month academic calendar, beginning on August 16, 2022. Normal teaching load is three courses per semester. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience; benefits are competitive; the retirement system is TIAA/CREF or TRS 3.  

Position Duties:

The candidate will take a leading role in the marketing major at the Vancouver campus and in the Professional Sales Program at Washington State University. In addition to teaching duties, service will include: participate in activities aimed at increasing interest in the marketing major, coordinate sales program activities with faculty affiliated with the program across campuses, be involved in the strategic planning for the sales program, coordinate external and internal communications, actively recruit and manage partner relationships, and devise and implement an annual budget for the program. The faculty member must remain academically or professionally qualified (per AACSB standards for WSU). Additional relevant service to the campus and discipline to advance the university towards its goals and provide distinctive contribution to the academic field will be required.

The Professional Sales Program was launched at Washington State University Vancouver campus in 2008 and has developed a strong reputation in the local community in the Pacific Northwest, with several community partners supporting the program over the years. The Program has recently been extended to Pullman, with the hiring of three new tenure-track faculty members dedicated to teaching in the Sales Program. Washington State University offers a single sales program across campuses, and recently launched the Center for Professional Sales capitalizing on expected cross-campus synergies. We offer a certificate in Professional Sales, and hold annual sales competition and career fairs.  External partners are significantly involved in the program, both by contributing financially, and by participating in several program activities.
