Description

The Moody College of Communication’s Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication and Leadership (CLD) invites nominations and applications for an open rank professor of practice or instruction and Associate Director. CLD’s Associate Director will work in partnership with the director to provide strategic and innovative leadership and management for the degree.

CLD is a flexible, customizable, interdisciplinary program that seeks to educate and inspire future leaders to lead positive change in our complicated world. CLD admitted its first students in Fall of 2016, and in Fall of 2023, it anticipates having approximately 400 students. CLD’s interdisciplinary curriculum provides students with the following:

  • Knowledge of frameworks, concepts, and theories related to leadership, communication, and ethics and experience applying them in real-world contexts
  • Awareness of their own strengths and weakness as leaders and followers and an understanding of how to play to their strengths and collaborate with others who will compensate for their weaknesses
  • Communication skills and expertise
  • Interdisciplinary understanding of social challenges and innovative communication and leadership strategies
  • Understanding of how to lead positive social change and experience doing so

Associate Director, Communication and Leadership Degree

The Associate Director (AD) will be appointed in a professional track faculty role of either practice or instruction, with rank to be determined at time of hire. Candidates must have expertise in the areas of communication and leadership. CLD is an interdisciplinary degree, and its faculty have appointments across the Moody College. As such, the AD’s faculty appointment may be in any of the Moody schools or departments, depending on the candidate’s expertise and experience. An individual with a Ph.D. is preferred. Among the preferred academic specializations are global communication/leadership and nonprofit communication/leadership.

Professional track faculty are expected to be outstanding teachers and to excel in additional contributions to the academic enterprise, which can include service, creative work, professional practice, or research. The AD will teach two to three courses each semester. In addition, summer teaching may be available though not required.

The AD must be an effective leader and work in partnership with the Director on the strategic direction and management of CLD to grow it in innovative ways and continuously adapt it to meet students’ needs ever more effectively. Among the AD’s responsibilities are the following:

  • Mentoring new faculty  
  • Course planning and assessment
  • Planning and supporting a speaker series
  • Planning and supporting student enrichment events such as career development panels and workshops
  • Representing CLD on college and university committees
  • Supporting social media communication
  • Supporting the Moody Development team in fundraising for CLD
  • Supporting student recruitment by meeting with prospective students and helping develop recruitment materials
  • Supervising student intern
  • Serving as faculty sponsor for CLD student club

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree, preferably in a field related to Communication and/or Leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. Degree, preferably in a field related to Communication and/or Leadership
  • Teaching and course development experience in higher education
  • Administration experience
