Job Description – Professor & Schaefer Chair in Marketing

The University of Dayton School of Business Administration seeks applications for Professor and the Norman and Lucille Schaefer Endowed Chair in Marketing.  This prestigious faculty appointment offers the successful candidate

The 12 month tenured appointment begins August 16, 2023. The Schaefer Chair in Marketing will provide leadership in the department and School of Business Administration by maintaining a program of outstanding scholarship and high-quality teaching. Beyond their own scholarship, the Schaefer Chair will help mentor junior faculty. The Schaefer Chair should also be willing to cultivate and support relationships in scholarship and teaching outside the department and beyond the School of Business.

The Department of Management and Marketing features a collaborative and cohesive environment, with research active faculty committed to the University’s Marianist principles. Department faculty publish in major academic journals, hold active positions in leading professional organizations and journals, and help deliver a unique, experientially-focused curriculum to students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The School of Business holds accreditation from the AACSB and offers eight undergraduate majors through four academic departments. At the graduate level, the School of Business offers the MBA, Master of Professional Accountancy, Master of Finance, and Master of Business Analytics. Supporting these degrees are well-known centers and programs that provide a broad array of impactful experiential learning opportunities to students, including the Crotty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, the Davis Center for Portfolio Management, the Fiore Talarico Center for Professional Selling, and the Center for the Integration of Faith and Work, among others.

Moreover, the city of Dayton, and the surrounding environs, offers fantastic living opportunities. From pastoral, wooded communities to a burgeoning downtown area complete with restaurants featuring James Beard Award nominated chefs, Dayton has something for everyone. The city also features a thriving arts scene, including the nation’s second oldest ballet company, and a nationally renowned art museum. Minimum Qualifications

At the time of application, candidates for the Schaefer Chair in Marketing must have:

  • Ph.D. in marketing or related field recognized by AACSB from an accredited university, and be eligible for tenured appointment at the rank of Professor at the University of Dayton.
  • History of research output that includes publication(s) in one or more of Marketing’s premier journals (e.g. Financial Times 50 journals).
  • Well-developed research program that demonstrates a high likelihood of continued publication in premier journals, as evidenced by papers under submission, working papers, and research in progress.
  • Demonstrated record of success teaching in undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • An expressed willingness and interest to serve the department, the School of Business, the University, and/or the profession.
  • Excellent written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Research on topics that would complement the interests of current marketing faculty
  • Experience interacting with constituencies external to the department, school, or university
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal communication skillsAn appreciation of the university’s Marianist values of theory-to-practice, practical wisdom, and community
  • Versatility in teaching, including with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Successful experience working collaboratively and developing positive working relationships 
  • Mentoring or working with and/or teaching socially and culturally diverse communities
